| I'm working with the AGS to bring these issues
to the
public, as well as to the Hollywood community. Recently I
appeared on Donahue to talk about gun safety. I was so nervous,
but little by little, I'm getting over my fears and finding my
inner Norma Rae. And last year Bradley Whitford [The West Wing],
his wife, Jane Kaczmarek [Malcolm in the Middle], and I hosted a
tribute in L.A. for Andrew McKelvey, the founder of AGS. We
invited actors, writers and directors to talk about the role
Hollywood can play in promoting gun safety. For example, you
know how some TV programs make a point of showing people putting
on their seat belts before starting their car, or add a line or
two in their scripts about the importance of using condoms?
Well, if someone is playing a police officer, why not show him
placing a lock on his gun and putting it away in a safe place?
That would be one subtle way of getting out the message to be
responsible about gun ownership. |
