WASHINGTON, April 25 /U.S. Newswire/
-- America's pro-choice majority and international supporters marched
over a million strong in the nation's capital today, protesting
attacks on women's reproductive rights.
"We sent a message to Washington today: there is a war on
choice in this country, but we're going to win this battle," said
Gloria Feldt, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America
(PPFA).
"If this administration and Congress don't get the message
after today, they are deaf to a growing wave of outrage," said
Feldt.
PPFA was one of the primary sponsors of the march, mobilizing
massive numbers to stand up for women's reproductive freedom.
Feldt spoke at the March along with a lineup including Julianne
Moore, Hillary Clinton, Madeline Albright, Maxine Waters and many
more. Among the celebrities who spoke, Helen Hunt, LisaGay Hamilton,
Bradley Whitford and Whoopi Goldberg marched as well.
The March for Women's Lives was led by seven organizing groups:
PPFA, the American Civil Liberties Union, Black Women's Health Imperative,
Feminist Majority, NARAL Pro-Choice America, the National Latina
Institute for Reproductive Health, and the National Organization
for Women.
The march was attended by delegations and individuals from all
over the world, representing nearly sixty countries, who came to
Washington from as far as Denmark and Kenya for the march.
"Today was proof of a realignment -- reproductive rights
are human rights, and threats to them will result in potent and
widespread reaction," said Feldt.
